New line of Intel chips

Bangalore, March 29

Intel announced on Thursday that it would begin producing its next-generation Penryn family of processors in the second half of this year. The Penryn family consists of six processors: dual and quad-core desktop processors; a dual core mobile processor; new dual and quad-core server processors under the Intel Xeon processor brand name and a high-end server processor.

The mobile processor for laptops will feature Intel's Deep Power Down Technology, which will reduce the power of the processor during idle periods such that internal transistor power leakage is minimal, which in turn helps extend battery life in laptops. Another new technology to be introduced is the Dynamic Acceleration Technology, which enhances performance of applications in dual core processors. These new processors will feature enhancements to the basic Intel Core microarchitecture and will be fabricated using 45nm process technology.
