New battery unit planned

Hyderabad, March 30

A new battery-manufacturing unit is being set up by Batteries India Ltd in Kanchikacherala near Vijayawada with an estimated investment of Rs 65 crore. The integrated battery plant would produce valve-regulated lead acid (VRLA) batteries for railways and telecom applications. The plant will have a capacity of 360 million ampere-hour per annum, Mr P. Srinivasa Rao, Managing Director, Energy Leader Batteries, told Business Line. The integrated battery plant is likely to be operational by the year-end and employ about 1,150 people, he said.
