Central lab certifies blood test kits of Monozyme

Our Legal Correspondent

Kolkata March 30 The National Institute of Biologicals, New Delhi, a Central Government laboratory, has tested the blood test kits supplied by Monozyme India Ltd and found them to be of standard quality.

The Advocate-General of West Bengal on Friday placed the report before a Division Bench comprising Mr Justice P.C. Ghose and Mr Justice B. Samaddar of the Calcutta High Court.

The Court, in the wake of the development, has directed the State Government to file an affidavit stating the steps that have been taken after receiving the report, which has given a clean chit to the testing kits.

The Kolkata Police had arrested the CEO and other executives of Monozyme India Ltd on the ground of supplying defective kits. These executives are now on bail.

Laboratory reports do not say anything adverse about the quality, which has been sounded by the Advocate-General, submitting that the hands of the State Government were tied because the report cannot be ignored by it. A public interest litigation was filed seeking compensation for the victims affected by the defective kits. At the PIL's hearing, the Advocate-General submitted the report.
