HCL Info takes to grooming engineers

A recent study had pegged the annual demand for networking professionals at two lakh while the supply was limited to 60 per cent of the demand.

Kolkata March 30 As part of its plans to help meet the demand for industry-ready professionals for the ICT sector, HCL Infosystems Ltd on Thursday unveiled plans to roll out 100 HCL Career Development Centres (HCL CDCs) across the country within the next 12-15 months.

Twenty-five of the proposed 100 HCL CDCs would be located in the eastern and northern regions. Ten of them would be in West Bengal, according to Mr Rajendra Kumar, Executive Vice-President, HCL Infosystems Ltd.

Addressing a news conference here after the formal inauguration of the first HCL CDC in Kolkata, Mr Kumar said the boom in IT sector had led to a severe shortage of highly-skilled ICT engineers.

HCL Infosystems was hopeful of leveraging upon its faculty of industry experts in IT software, hardware, networking and systems integration to help bridge this gap.

According to him, a recent study had pegged the annual demand for networking professionals at two lakh while the supply was limited to 60 per cent of the demand. The deficit is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 21 per cent till 2010. A

s such, HCL Infosystems had decided to focus on the need to create a robust and sustainable skilled manpower resourcing framework.

The HCL CDCs would offer a three-months full time and one-year part-time course titled `HCL Certified Network Engineer,' he said.
