Business comes to a halt in Chennai

Our Bureau

Chennai March 31 Industrial activity and businesses in Chennai came to a halt on Saturday following the bandh called by the political parties.

The bandh was to protest a Supreme Court stay on a law providing for reservation to Other Backward Classes in higher educational institutions. The State Government declared a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Most units in the industrial suburbs, shops and business houses in Chennai were shut in response to the State-wide bandh led by the ruling DMK and its allies. Shopping areas in North Chennai were deserted. Businesses across all sectors were affected.
