West Bengal's credit-deposit ratio at 65%

West Bengal's credit-deposit ratio has recorded an increase by 5 percentage points over March 2006 to 65 per cent, a press release issued by United Bank of India has said.
A State Level Bankers' Committee Meeting, held on March 31, reviewed the progress made with regard to major decisions of the last Special SLBC meeting held in November 2006.
Mr Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of State for Finance, stressed on enhanced flow of credit to agriculture and other priority sectors. He also underlined the need for micro financing. Coverage of additional eight districts in the State for 100 per cent financial inclusion next year has been suggested.
During the April-December 2006 period, the banks disbursed Rs 6,373 crore against the annual credit plan of Rs 10,925 crore for 2006-07. This marks an increase of 24 per cent over the disbursement of Rs 5,154 crore during the corresponding period of last year. The estimated disbursement is Rs 10,581 crore for 2006-07.
The banks made savings linkages to 87,407 self-help groups and credit linkages to 70,639 groups during April-December 2006.
