Outlook Industry & Economy - Hotels States - Tamil Nadu Appu Hotels plans 10 more units in TN R. Ravikumar
Chennai April 2 Appu Hotels Ltd that owns Le Royal Meridien, a five-star deluxe hotel in Chennai, plans 10 hotels across the State in another three to four years. "Of the ten, two or three will be in the five-star category and the rest will be in the mid-priced (three or four-star) segment," Mr Palani G. Periasamy, Chairman, Le Royal Meridien, told Business Line. According to him, the company will altogether open up in excess of 1,500 quality rooms in the State. "As we want our hotels to be environment-friendly, most of our proposed projects would be greenfield, and in all, we are planning to invest Rs 1,000 crore in the project," Mr Periasamy said. Without mentioning the names of the cities the company is planning to have hotels in, he said the group is in the phase of identifying the land for the purpose. "In some cases, we have finalised the location, and work will begin soon," he said. Part of the PGP Group, Appu Hotels' only property in Chennai, the 243-room Le Royal Meridien is set in 3.5 acres with an investment of Rs 165 crore. The company runs the property through a management tie-up with Meridien Hotels and Resorts.
