Our Bureau

Mangalore, April 2

The Commissioner of Railway Safety will inspect Hassan-Mangalore railway line in April, according to Ms Sarala Balagopal, Director and Chief Executive Officer of Hassan-Mangalore Rail Development Company (HMRDC) Ltd.

Addressing the members of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here on Monday evening, she said that the passenger trains on the line could be operated only after the Commissioner certifies it. It is essential for the Commissioner of Railway Safety to certify the line for operating passenger trains on it. The line was commissioned for freight traffic in May 2006. Around 1.5 million tonnes of cargo was moved on the line from May 2006 to March 2007, she said.
