Bangalore zone customs mop-up tops Rs 5,000 cr

Bangalore April 2 The Bangalore Customs Zone, covering the Commissionerates of Bangalore, Mangalore and Cochin, has crossed the Rs 5,000-crore mark of revenue collection for the fiscal 2006-07, surpassing the target of Rs 4,540 crore. The zone with Rs 5,004-crore mark, recorded a growth of 30.5 per cent over the fiscal 2005-06 figure of Rs 3,835 crore.

The major contribution for the record collection came from imports of electrical and mechanical machinery, petroleum crude, medical equipment and vegetable oils, said an official release.

The Bangalore Customers Commissionerate alone accounted for about half of the zone's collection at Rs 2,932 crore during 2006-07. The Bangalore Commissionerate registered a growth of 50 per cent during the year against Rs 1,976 crore in the previous FY.
