Kairali plans youth channel

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram April 3 Malayalam Communications Ltd, which owns the Kairali and People satellite television channels, will launch a youth-oriented channel.

Speaking to newspersons, actor Mammootty, who is the Chairman of Malayalam Communications, said that the company's third Malayalam satellite television channel would be called `WE.'

A significant proportion of the country's television-viewing population is made up of young people and there is a need to cater to this segment, he added.

The 24-hour channel will cater to young people with a mix of "different programmes" that would entertain and also appeal to the intellect, he said.

It will have programmes on lifestyle, cinema, fashion, culture, sports and other areas of interest to young people.

Film-based programmes would constitute about 40 per cent of the programming mix on `WE,' Mammootty said.

The channel will be launched in Kochi on April 15.
