Retailing Kitchenworld plans 20 more stores by March Sravanthi Challapalli
Chennai April 3 With today's upwardly mobile yuppies fuelling the apartment boom, the modular kitchens business is having a good time of it too. The Chennai-based Kitchenworld, which sells the Aran Cucine brand of Italian kitchens, plans to open 20 more stores across the country by March 2008, says Mr Rajesh Bohra, Managing Director, Kitchenworld India. Mr Bohra says the organised modular kitchens market is estimated at Rs 75 crore and growing at 40 per cent per year. Kitchenworld's share of this is Rs 12 crore it's one of only two national players, the other being Veneta Cucine, says Mr Bohra. It has seven exclusive outlets in various cities and is set to open the eighth one, in Hyderabad, this month. The business is driven by volumes, says Mr Bohra, adding that the bulk of the business comes from homes in apartment blocks. These kitchens usually cost Rs 1.5 lakh. Kitchenworld has two offerings Express Aran and Aran Cucine. Express Aran is the value-for-money option and kitchens are delivered in 10 days. Aran Cucine is for exclusive kitchens designed to individual tastes, generally in independent houses, and may take as long as three months to be delivered. The kitchens are imported from Italy as completely built units. Kitchenworld also offers international domestic appliances brands for inclusion in these kitchens. According to Mr Bohra, Delhi is the biggest market for modular kitchens, followed by Mumbai and Bangalore. A considerable portion of Kitchenworld's business comes from builders of apartments in these cities, he added.
