The Andhra Pradesh Government has awarded the contract for the proposed Vynatheya bridge on the Godavari river, connecting Amalapuram and Razole. to Gammon India Ltd, Mumbai.
"We have signed an agreement with Gammon in this regard and the construction will begin very soon," Dr G.V.S. Suryanarayana Raju, Chief Engineer (R&B, National Highways), told newspersons here on Tuesday.
The Rs 56-crore bridge is being funded by the Union Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways and the work is scheduled to be completed in April 2010. Apart from adding to the comfort of local people, the connectivity between Amalapuram and Razole will be advantageous to the business community in the district, Dr Raju said.
Coming up at Kathipudi-Pamarru section of NH 214, it will connect Bodasakurru on Amalapuram side with Pasarlapudi on Razole side. This will reduce the distance between the two coastal towns by about 18 km. Currently, the road from Amalapuram to Rajole is passing through Gannavaram.
The executive agency for the 1-km bridge is the National Highways wing of AP Public Works Department. Hyderabad-based P.V. Raj & Company is the design consultant.
