Murugappa group opens 1-stop outlet for farmers

Guntur March 4 Farmers should get the inputs they require as well as credit in a single shop, without any hassles, and this will greatly boost agricultural productivity in the country, Mr A. Vellayan, the Chairman of the Coromandel Fertilisers, has said.

He was speaking on Wednesday at Sattenapalli in Guntur district after inaugurating the retail outlet — Mana Gromor — of the company. He said farmers could get all inputs in the shop.

Coromandel Fertilisers and Godavari Fertilisers — Murugappa Group companies — would set up 100 such retail outlets in Andhra Pradesh and later in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Each outlet — to be set up at a cost of Rs 25 lakh — would cater to the needs of 5,000 farmers from 50 villages in the vicinity. Trained personnel will visit the villages, collect soil samples and advise farmers on the fertilisers and pesticides to be used. There would be a lab attached to the shop.
