Meet on pulses seeks breaking yield barrier

Our Bureau

Coimbatore April 4 A two-day annual research meet on pulses at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) was on Wednesday called to devise a technology package that will break the yield barrier set in the State's output.

The package could address the prevailing yield gap through a combination of precision farming practices including introduction of supplemental irrigation tools, new strains of microbes to fix atmospheric nitrogen and soil/fertility management measures.

The TNAU Vice-Chancellor Dr C. Ramasamy, suggested that supplemental irrigation tool was necessary to lift productivity in pulses because they were predominantly raised as dryland crops.
