Alliances & Joint Ventures Apollo, IBM plan Health Superhighway Our Bureau
Hyderabad April 4 The Apollo Group of Hospitals and IBM are planning to establish a `Health Superhighway' in a year, offering doctors in the country access to medical advice and information inputs. Microsoft Corp too had showed keen interest in joining the project, according to Dr Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman of the hospitals group. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a CII conference here on Wednesday, he said the yet-to-be-formed 50:50 joint venture would connect at least 150 health centres in four zones in a year. The group would join eight other hospitals, including Narayana Hridayalaya, Bangalore and AIIMS, New Delhi to offer telemedicine connectivity to 52 African countries. The connectivity, which would begin on May 1, would enable doctors and hospitals in the African Continent to get expert medical opinion from the Indian doctors.
UK acquisition
On the efforts to acquire a UK-based company, Dr Prathap Reddy said the due diligence process was on. Talks were on with two UK companies for acquisition of at least one of them. He, however, refused to divulge the name of the company and the size of the deal. "Funds are not a problem. International investment agencies like Blackstone have reposed faith in the abilities of the hospital group," he said, answering a question on the funding aspect of the proposed deal.
