Xansa eyes offshoring biz in China, eastern Europe

Priyanka Vyas

Plans major expansion in Chennai

New Delhi April 4 The UK-based Xansa, which currently only has India as its offshore destination, is looking to tap business from the Chinese and Eastern European markets.

"As the markets are expanding, we are looking at how we can offer our services to clients from the markets in China and Eastern Europe. But India continues to be our major area of focus in terms of our expansion plans" said Ms Yvonne Spalding, Chief Operating Officer, Xansa.

To hike headcounts

Xansa also plans to increase its headcount in India from the current 5,000 to 10,000 over the coming two- three years. The major expansion would be at the Chennai centre, said Ms Spalding.

The company currently has delivery centres in Noida, Chennai and Pune.

With the UK outsourcing market rising steadily, the company is focussing on deals primarily in the banking, financial and insurance domain. However, it also expects the business from the retail and utilities verticals to expand.

Commenting on the growing competition with Indian vendors, she added that the company's focus purely on the UK market had been an advantage not only in winning deals but also when the clients renewed contracts with other vendors.

Organic growth

On the acquisition front, she said that Xansa was only considering organic growth. The company offers consulting services for technology outsourcing and back-office operations in verticals such as banking, insurance, telecom, travel, logistics amongst others and employs 9,000 professionals globally.

As per IT consulting firm TPI's estimates, the market share of the UK in the global outsourcing market stood at 15.2 per cent in 2002 against 51.3 per cent of the US.

However, the market share of the US has come down to 42. 3 per cent in 2006 and of the UK has increased to 16.6 per cent.
