PG certificate course in industrial health for doctors

Tiruchi April 5 A three-month post-graduate certificate course in industrial health for doctors employed in industries was inaugurated at the National Model Centre for Occupational Health Services, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), here recently.

The Additional General Manager (health, safety and environment), BHEL, Mr G. Srinivasan, in his inaugural address said that increasing automation in the work place and technological advances were throwing up fresh challenges to occupational health professionals everyday, which called for new competencies like networking and IT skills to keep abreast of the latest developments worldwide. He called upon the participating doctors to meet the new challenges thrown up by the emergence of newer occupations and new technology.

The course director, Mr N.K. Chandrasekaran, said the course would include occupational medicine, industrial hygiene, health information systems, nursing and would lay a lot of emphasis on hands-on-skill acquisition.

Over 20 doctors, employed in various industries are participating in the course.
