Coimbatore April 5 The unscheduled power cut imposed in the region has hit the industries leading to production loss, according to the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Coimbatore.

In a statement, Mr D. Balasundaram, President, ICCI, said due to this, industries, particularly foundries and textile units, were suffering a daily production loss of 10-15 per cent. Because of poor voltage and fluctuation, costly equipmenthad damaged.

He said if the Government declared power cut, the industries would be required to pay only the maximum demand charges to the extent of power consumed rather than on fixed kVA of power.

He suggested that the Government should arrange for evacuation of power from windmills.

He wanted Tamil Nadu to emulate the example of Andra Pradesh that recently reduced power tariff.
