HAL profit up 42%

Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd announced 42 per cent rise in its profit before tax of Rs 1,600 crore for the fiscal 2006-07. The sales turnover of Rs 7,505 crore was a growth of 41 per cent over the previous year, the defence PSU said in a release. On the export front, HAL registered 34 per cent growth at Rs 250 crore. The value of production at Rs 8,100 crore is 37 per cent higher than the previous year. Its order book position including for aircraft and helicopters touched a record Rs 40,000 crore.

Export orders amounted to Rs 500 crore. HAL said it has paid the highest-ever interim dividend of Rs 237.95 crore for the year ended March 31 - or around 197 per cent of the paid-up capital. The defence aircraft major attributed its performance largely to the successful execution of programmes such as Su-30 MkI, Do-228, ALH (advanced light helicopter) and Jaguar and a series of aircraft upgrade programmes.
