Mergers & Acquisitions 54 M&A deals in March: Grant Thornton Our Bureau
New Delhi April 4 A total of 54 merger and acquisition (M&A) deals were announced in March this year entailing $2.14 billion in value terms, as against 57 deals with a total announced value of $ 22.21 billion in February, according to Grant Thornton data. The most significant deals during March have been Tata Power picking up stake in PT Kaltim Prima Coal and PT Arutmin of Indonesia and Havell's acquisition of SLI Sylvania lighting business, according to the data.
Domestic deals
There were 25 domestic deals (both acquirer and target being Indian) with an announced value of $0.32 billion and 29 cross-border deals with an announced value of $1.82 billion. Of the cross border deals, 19 were outbound deals (Indian companies acquiring businesses outside India) with a value of $1.48 billion and 10 were inbound deals (international companies or their subsidiaries acquiring Indian businesses) with an announced value of close to $0.34 billion. A total of 45 private equity deals were announced in March with a total announced value of $928.04 million.
