Hyderabad April 6 In view of the rapid advances in technology, mining engineers should keep themselves abreast of new developments in the field, according to Mr M. Venkataiah, President, Mining Engineers Association of India (MEAI).

Speaking at a function organised to mark the Golden Jubilee celebration of the association here on Friday, Mr Venkataiah said the MEAI, which was establishedin 1957, had come a long way and now had 20 chapters spread across the country with over 3,000 life-members.

"In 1957, there was little expertise in mining technology in our country. But now, the situation is different," he observed.

Mr S.N. Padhi, Director General (Retd), Mines Safety, felicitated the past office-bearers of the association. Mr V.S. Rao, Chairman of MEAI Golden Jubilee Committee, also spoke. The association is also organising a three-day seminar on `Present status of mining and future prospects.'
