IMPORT CURBS: A worker drying arecanut at a field near Mangulam in Kerala's Idukki district. The Union Government's decision to allow imports of arecanut only through the New Mangalore Port has helped lifting domestic prices. New supari arecanut prices which ruled at Rs 6,300 a quintal on Febuary 19 have increased to Rs 6,960 currently. Since the beginning of this year, arecanut prices have gained 25 per cent.
