Youth urged to hone their language skills

Our Bureau

Hyderabad April 10 Spread of education and a renewed focus on the English language skills can unleash the potential in the youth across the country, say experts.

At a panel discussion on `Engaging the youth: Igniting the latent potential' organised by the Young Indians (Yi), Hyderabad chapter, the panellists agreed that youth should be engaged in honing their skills in education in general and English in particular.

Latent Potential

"In all sectors including IT and ITES, education plays a vital role. In the current global economy, our language ability played a key role till now and youngsters should learn English and other industry-specific skills," Mr M.K. Patodia, Managing Director, GTN Industries, opined.

Mr D.V. Manohar, Chairman and Managing Director, Shri Shakti LPG Ltd, agreed with Mr Patodia's view. "While literacy is very important for achieving double-digit growth, promotion of micro level entrepreneurship is also vital," he observed.

Mr G. Vivekanand, Managing Director, Visaka Industries, pointed out the need to bridge the gap between the demand and supply of skilled manpower in the country. Suggesting that the best way to unleash the latent potential in the youth was to involve the educated youth, Mr Pradeep Dhobale, Chairman, CII Andhra Pradesh said educated people from the urban areas should be impressed upon to spend sometime in rural areas to spread education.

The discussion was organised to mark the annual session of Yi, Hyderabad chapter.
