`Retail, media, FMCG will be active hiring sectors in Q1'

Net employment outlook up 1%: TeamLease

Bangalore April 10 Retail, media and FMCG would be active hiring sectors in the current quarter. According to the third quarterly employment outlook released by TeamLease Services Pvt Ltd, net employment outlook in these three sectors (86 points) is the highest in the quarter April-June 2007.

The net employment outlook has increased by one per cent over the last two quarters and business outlook decreased by one per cent from the previous quarter. The sharpest net increase in employment outlook growth since the last quarter is in Chennai at 19 per cent, followed by Kolkata at seven per cent, Bangalore and Ahmedabad at four per cent.

According to the report, middle management hiring has increased by 10 per cent since the last quarter whilst junior level has risen by six per cent.

Retail boom

Mr Sampath Shetty, Vice-President, TeamLease Services, said that business confidence looks positive with a boom in the retail sector taking centrestage.

Therefore, there will be growth opportunities for the textile, infrastructure and realty industry, leading to net increase in the employment outlook.

Manufacturing is expected to have the maximum opportunities across skill sets and is witnessing a major hiring drive in the junior to mid-level management.

At this stage, the challenge for organisations would be to match the demand-supply of manpower to optimise their market share in this economy-growth.

Urban, rural hiring

The report also indicated that the employment scenario would continue to be favourable towards urban hiring which has increased by three per cent since the last quarter. There is also a step taken in the positive direction towards hiring from the rural regions, reflected by a one per cent increase since the last quarter.

The intention to hire across functions also indicate a positive direction for HR and IT, both of which have increased by 3 per cent in the current quarter.
