Financial inclusion in Kodagu

Chikmagalur district to be covered soon

Mangalore April 11 Corporation Bank has completed its first phase of financial inclusion project in Kodagu district of Karnataka.

A bank release said here on Tuesday that Ms Devaki Muthukrishnan, Regional Director of Reserve Bank of India, Bangalore, formally declared the completion of the project at a special district consultative committee meeting. The meeting was organised by the Lead Bank Office of Corporation Bank at Madikeri recently. Ms Muthukrishnan congratulated the bank for having taken up the task of financial inclusion in Kodagu and Chikmagalur districts. Mr K.L. Gopalakrishna, Executive Director of Corporation Bank, urged the bankers to lend more under general credit card scheme to help poor people.

Under Kodagu project, 295 villages and 71 wards are covered. All the branches of scheduled commercial banks, regional rural banks and co-operative banks coming under the district took part in implementing the project.

Chikmagalur will be shortly achieving 100 per cent financial inclusion, the release said.
