Trade & Labour Unions Pricol lifts partial lock-out R.Y. Narayanan
A Pricol spokesman today said the company has informed the Government and the workers that it has withdrawn the action against the 64 workers.
Coimbatore April 11 The management of Pricol Ltd has lifted the `partial lock out' in respect of 64 employees, who have been among the workmen on agitation since early March over the issue of transfer of some workers from Coimbatore to Uttaranchal. This follows an order issued by the State Government late on Tuesday prohibiting the continuance of the strike by the workmen of Pricol Ltd in Plant I in Perianaickenpalayam and Plant III in Chinna Mathampalayam and the partial lock out of the workmen.
Workmen transfer
The order issued by Mr Ramesh Kumar Khanna, Secretary, Labour and Employment Department of the Government, said that after considering the reports of the Commissioner of Labour, the circumstances of the dispute, the `sequence of events starting from the transfer of workmen leading to commencement of the strike' by the workmen of Pricol in the two plants and the reluctance of the management and the union to `set right the issues through conciliation,' the Government was of the view that the strike and the partial lock out of 64 workmen of Pricol `should be prohibited.' The order said pending adjudication of the industrial disputes referred for adjudication to the Industrial Tribunal, Chennai, the Government `prohibit the continuance of the strike' by the workmen of two Pricol plants and the partial lockout of 64 workmen with immediate effect. A Pricol spokesman today said the management was quick to respond to the Government order and has informed the Government and the workers that it has withdrawn the action against the 64 workers. But he was disappointed to note that the workers who had gone on strike had not responded positively and had not returned to work following the Government's decision. Except for the workers who did not report for duty today, the factory worked at full strength and there was no hindrance to the workers from reporting for duty. He said even during the worst period of the agitation in the two units, the company was able to maintain 70-75 per cent of the production capacity. A contingent of the Pricol workers had gone to Chennai last night to participate in a procession scheduled for today and their response would be known on their return here.
