Mumbai April 12 Asia MotorWorks Ltd (AMW), the latest entrant in the heavy commercial vehicle industry, on Thursday showcased its entire `Global Truck Series'.

Its range includes 4923 Tractor, 4018 Tractor, 4923 Tip Semi-Trailer, 2523 Rock and Box Body Tipper and 2518 Haulage and 2518 Concrete Mixer in Mumbai.

While announcing its expansion plans, the company said it aims to sell 5,000 heavy commercial vehicles this year. The company plans to hike its share in the 49-tonnage vehicle segment from 70 per cent to 90 per cent. In its first year of operation (2006-07), AMW achieved sales of 900 units with a turnover of Rs 100 crore.

AMW Global Truck series meet Euro II emission norms and comprises aggregates (major components) from global leaders like Cummins, Valeo, Meritor, Dana Spicer and ZF. The products are competitively priced in the range of Rs 15-28 lakh and offer GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) ranging from 25 tonnes to 49 tonnes.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Anirudh Bhuwalka, Managing Director and CEO, Asia MotorWorks Ltd, said, "With rapid industrialisation, sustained GDP growth of 8.5 per cent and the government's focus on building the new highway projects like the Golden Quadrilateral and the NSEW (North-South-East-West) corridors, we see the freight industry poised for a major leap. Through Maharashtra, we want to strengthen our presence in the western market, which has various industries like steel, oil, automotive, engineering, construction etc along with Mumbai being a port hub. We see a great business potential for our tippers, tractors, concrete mixers, tip semi-trailer, etc in this region and we would like to exploit this opportunity."

"We aim to expand our product range with specialised vehicles in the form of fire tenders, concrete mixers and tipper trucks in different applications," Mr Bhuwalka added.

The Global Truck series comes with a ZF 9-Speed Gearbox offering finer selection of speed to ensure higher fuel efficiency.

The Cummins engine comes with a Euro II compliant powerful 235 hp engine. The cabins are equipped with air-conditioning and AM/FM radio. They are ergonomically designed to reduce fatigue, and increase driver comfort and productivity. Each AMW commercial vehicle is equipped with a GPS navigation system backed with a 24-hour call centre for assistance.

Sales, service network

"Following the Supreme Court ban on overloading, we have received amazing response for our 49-tonnage vehicle. We already have 22 main dealers with 26 branches throughout the country. We are also in the process of rolling out a nationwide sales service and spares network comprising 30 main dealers, 450 sub dealers, 151 service outlets and five warehouses.

These centres will cover most of the major highways like the Golden Quadrilateral, North-South Corridor and East-West Corridor," said Mr R.C. Mangal, Vice-President, Marketing, Asia MotorWorks Ltd. The truck-manufacturing facility is situated in Bhuj, Gujarat spread over 600 acres with proximity to the port. The facility has a production capacity of 10,000 units per annum.

The company has invested Rs 500 crore in its operations over the past three years.
