Real Estate & Construction Web Extras - Education States - Andhra Pradesh NAC to open 40 more centres by year-end G. Naga Sridhar
Hyderabad April 12 Buoyed by the increasing response to its training courses in construction trades, Hyderabad-based National Academy of Construction (NAC) is in the process of expanding its network and collaborations. The academy, set up as a model institute in public-private partnership, will be adding 40 more centres in different parts of Andhra Pradesh. "Arrangements are in place to expand our network to 70 by the end of the year," Mr F.C.S. Peter, Director General, NAC told Business Line. At present it runs 30 centres in the State. The NAC is in talks with the State Government for securing infrastructure in different towns. "We have already got an accommodation in Kadapa for our centre and others will follow," Mr Peter said. The centre also targets to train over 30,000 people in construction trades by the end of the year. Though many requests are pouring in from many States, NAC prefers to go slow on expansion into other States. "We have received requests from Chhattisgarh, Maharastra, Orissa and Assam among others. We are willing to train people from other States in our centres here rather than opening our centres there," he said. Apart from training in construction trades, NAC also offers post-graduate diploma in Facility Management and Highway Technology. It plans to start a diploma in Building Technology from this year. "For building technology and highway technology, we have tied up with Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here to augment our expertise," the Director General said. With the growth in number of corporate offices, NAC's diploma in facility management is gaining popularity. Further, it has tied up with a reputed Non-Government Organisation to train 30 women from exploited backgrounds in construction trades, which would begin in a couple of weeks.
The skill upgradation programmes of NAC is attracting global attention. "In a couple of days, a group of eight engineers from Afghanistan would arrive here to undertake training for skill upgradation. We are also in talks with an American firm," Mr Peter said.
On the domestic front, a select group from the army would also participate in the skill upgradation training soon. "We will also be training personnel from the Border Roads Management Organisation and the South Central Railway," he said.
