Symantec arm unveils tool for home users

New Delhi April 12 Security software solution provider Veritas Software Solutions Pvt Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of the US-based Symantec Corporation, on Thursday launched its product Norton 360 mainly targeted at users in the home category, to protect them from online threats.

With home users encountering problems related to phishing while conducting online transactions such as shopping and banking, the software claims to alert its users so as to prevent them from being trapped by such mails. The product would also have back-up data system that would enable users to retrieve data including photos, music and important files that the users may have stored on their computers.

This includes the capacity to store 2 GB data and provides consumers the facility to purchase an additional storage capacity.

Besides, this it would also have a PC tune-up feature that would enable computers to be tuned for everyday purpose by removing unnecessary files.

"In the US we launched the product two months ago and are now rolling it out globally. Home users have been the weakest link in most attacks with 86 per cent of total attacks targeted at them," said Mr Vincent Steckler, Senior Vice-President, World Wide Consumer Sales, Symantec Corporation. The product is priced at Rs 3,899, which includes an annual subscription fees, and can be installed on up to three PCs per household.

Till now the company had launched its products for the enterprise segment and individual users. This would be the company's first product mainly for home users.

The company had also launched security software for protecting data in mobile devices a year ago for the domestic market.

It is talking with various operators for installing its software in mobile devices, said Mr Vishal Dhupar, Managing Director, Veritas Software Solutions Pvt Ltd.
