Tirupur hosting meet on flat knitting

Our Bureau

Coimbatore April 13 Fashion-knitted garments produced using computerised flat-knitting machines are turning popular.

The advantages in using flat-knitting technology are less labour intensive, more design possibility (in latest technology machines, of course) and less yarn wastage.

Garment production out of new generation computerised flat knitting machines does present wider options in the manufacture of fashion garments and also in `all season' wears that provide greater body comfort.

These and other versatilities of the flat knitting technology will be discussed in detail at a seminar being specially organised on `fashion garments through flat knitting - a future market' in Tirupur on April 19.

The industrial seminar being organised as part of the Textiles Committee's (government of India) cluster development programme will feature the recent developments in the area of flat-knitting technology.

The seminar is to be held under the aegis of Shima Seiki Manufacturing Ltd, Japan, a global leader in computerised flat knitting machinery manufacture and its Indian selling agents Janaksons International.

According to a communication from Mr G. Venugopal, cluster development agent of Textiles Committee, Tirupur, among those to attend the seminar include Mr A. Sakthivel, President of the Tirupur Exporters Association, Mr Yamamoto from Shima Seiki, Mr Ashwani Behl, President of Janaksons International, and Mr S. Periasamy, Deputy Director, Textiles Committee, who is to inaugurate the seminar.
