Strategy Corporate - Outlook Canon on reorganisation drive for doubling revenues L.N. Revathy
The company plans to increase the headcount of its sales and marketing group.
MR ALOK BHARADWAJ
Coimbatore April 13 Canon India is aiming to Indianise its brand appeal and double its revenues over the next two years. The company, which is entering its 10th year of operations, has begun to reorganise its sales and marketing structure to achieve this vision. The sales and marketing group has been broken up into four divisions Business Imaging Solutions (Direct Sales Division), Business Imaging Solutions (Channel Sales Division), Consumer Systems Products Division and Imaging Communication Products Division. This group is to be headed by Mr Alok Bharadwaj, Vice-President, Canon India. Referring to the reorganisation, Mr Bharadwaj reiterated that the effort was aimed at doubling revenues from Rs 400 crore in 2006 to Rs 800 crore by 2008. "It is a critical part of Canon's overall strategy to help streamline business operations. With each of these divisions focusing on their core areas of operation, operational efficiency can be enhanced effectively,'' he added. The company plans to increase the headcount of its sales and marketing group with the creation of 37 new job positions. This is expected to take the total marketing headcount to 237. According to Mr Bharadwaj, a director would head each of the divisions. The company plans to create nine new job positions in the Direct Sales Division to take the headcount to 93. "This division would have a target of building over 280 major accounts and achieve 300 per cent growth in high-end (colour) machines. A separate pre-sales department has been created to cater to the requirements of the enterprise market segment. "The pre-sales team would help the existing sales team build solutions business. We expect the solutions business to be a major sales driver for all key accounts,'' Mr Bharadwaj said. The Channel Sales Division would strive to retain the top position in the digital copier category, he said. The company is creating a product training cell under the Consumer System Products Division to train dealers and the sales team. Canon would be launching company-owned showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai before the end of this year for showcasing its entire product range, Mr Bharadwaj said. The company also plans expansion of its camera repair and service centres in Bangalore and Kolkata. It already has such service centres in Delhi and Mumbai.
