Petroleum Oil product sales up 4.6% Our Bureau
New Delhi April 13 Propelled by the boost in economy, the country's oil product sales rose 4.6 per cent to 111.69 million tonnes (or 2.24 million barrels a day) during the fiscal ended March 31, 2007. Oil product sales in 2005-06 were 106.73 million tonnes (mt), as per data available. The year 2006-07 ended at a high note with diesel recording highest growth in the last 10 years and petrol in last four years. Diesel sales, which constitute the largest component of product sales rose 6.9 per cent. The oil marketing companies sold 42.86 mt of diesel during 2006-07 as against 40.09 mt in the previous year. In 2006-07, sales of petrol totalled 9.29 mt compared with 8.64 mt a year earlier registering a growth of 7.5 per cent. Liquefied petroleum gas sales grew 5.1 per cent during the period under review to 10.53 mt. During March 2007, oil product sales stood at 10.55 mt up from 9.56 mt in the same month last year registering a growth of 10.4 per cent. Sales of diesel were at 3.99 mt in March as against 3.57 mt in the same month last year clocking a growth of 11.6 per cent. Petrol sales in March saw a growth of 15.6 per cent at 8,82,400 tonnes compared with 7,63,500 tonnes in the corresponding month previous year. Sales of naphtha used in power and fertiliser plants were up 9.7 per cent in March at 1 mt.
