Durgapur Steel's record output

Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) has recorded an all-time high production of 1.7 million tonnes (mt) of saleable steel in 2006-07. This translates into a rated capacity of 107 per cent, which is the best since inception, according to a press release issued by the company. The release states that hot metal production in 2006-07 stood at 2.06 mt while crude steel production stood at 1.87 mt. All-time best performance was recorded in CCP, skelp mill and finished steel, and special steels production. During the year under review, the supply of high-quality forged wheels to Indian Railways stood at an all-time best at 66,532 nos. S-Profile wheels specially designed for high-speed locos were manufactured at the plant even as 50 nos of MG Loco wheels were exported to Malaysia for the first time. During the current fiscal, DSP hopes to achieve a 15 per cent growth in production of hot metal, 15 per cent in crude steel and 18 per cent in saleable steel, according to the release.
