First Indian to be honoured with the recognition

Bangalore April 15 Ms Sangita Jindal, Chairperson of Jindal South West Foundation, has been nominated as a member of the Board of Trustees of the World Monuments Fund (WMF). Ms Jindal is the first Indian to be honoured with the recognition. The WMF Board has distinguished world people including Prince Amyn Aga Khan.

The New York-based WMF is an organisation dedicated to the preservation of historic art and architecture worldwide and has worked with local communities and partners to stem the loss of more than 420 sites in 80 countries. It currently has 250 projects that are receiving grants through World Monuments and other institutional programmes.

Ms Jindal said, "Being invited to such a prestigious Board is a matter of pride. But more importantly, I hope to use this opportunity to draw the world focus on the numerous Indian monuments that are in dilapidated state and need to be restored and preserved."

Jindal South West Foundation has already partnered with WMF since 2005 on a project to strengthen the conservation of Hampi.
