Mangalore, April 17

The Mangalore Commissionerate of Central Excise collected a service tax of Rs 170 crore during 2006-07 against Rs 124 crore in the previous fiscal, said Dr John Joseph, Commissioner of Customs and Central Excise, Mangalore. While addressing the members of the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) here, he said the Commissionerate is not in a position to post any of its staff members at the Mangalore airport, if the cargo operation is allowed at the airport. However, the Government has initiated the process of appointments on all-India basis. Capt J.P. Menezes, KCCI President, was also present on the occasion.
