Scuffle at HM unit: Contempt notice against police

Kolkata April 17 Mr Justice Dipankar Datta of the Calcutta High Court today issued Rule of Contempt against the police authority and `Jukta Sangrami Morcha' of Hindustan Motors' factory at Uttarapara, for violating the court's order of March 28.

On March 28, Mr Justice Datta directed the police authority to see that normal functioning of the factory of Hindustan Motors was not disturbed, and that the agitating employees do not create disturbance affecting the free ingress and egress of willing workers. According the company, in spite of the court order, the police did not take any steps and the agitating members of the Sramik union were creating an obstruction to clearance of the finished goods from the factory premises.

Responding to the plaint application filed by the company on April 10, the court today issued the Rule of Contempt against the DG and IG, West Bengal, and Superintendent of Police, Hooghly, DIG Burdwan Range and SDPO, Srirampore along with and 10 members of the agitating union.
