Jack-up rig Trident sails off from CSL after repairs

Kochi April 19 Jack up rig Trident II of Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling, Houston, sailed off from Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) on Thursday, after major repairs. The repair work was completed on schedule and to the full satisfaction of the owner, CSL said in a press release.

Trident II is a three-leg cantilever jack up rig that operated at 300 feet water depth and has a capacity to drill up to 25,000 feet. It had arrived for repairs at CSL on November 15, 2006. The scope of the repair work undertaken included 350 tonnes of steel renewal, which consisted of a new three-tier accommodation block, removal/re-installation of shale shaker units, cropping/renewal of piping of 1,500 metres and renewal of electrical cables of different sizes amounting to a total length of 7,500 metres.

The contract also required fabrication, installation and commissioning of new raw water tower, blasting and painting covering 20,000 sq. metres, renewal of drilling control panels, job on paging system, overhauling of AC motors, overhauling DC motors, renewal of 150 sensors, installation of lights, light fittings with cabling jobs and jobs on fire and gas detection systems.

Hydro blasting of all the legs, steel renewal on all legs up to the full height, painting and anode renewal were also undertaken using special scaffolding for the first time, the release said. With Transocean expressing appreciation of the work, the yard expects more such orders from the company that has more than 150 oil rigs operating worldwide. Of this, 12 are operating in Indian waters, the release said.
