Airlines Marketing - Strategy Singapore Airlines to deploy all A380s on dense routes Our Bureau
Hyderabad April 19 Singapore Airlines, which is going to be the first airline in the world to fly Airbus A380 aircraft towards the year-end, would deploy all the 19 new generation wide-bodied aircraft it ordered for the dense routes and airports such as Sydney and London. Addressing a press conference, Mr Foo Chai Woo, General Manager (India) of Singapore Airlines, said it made sense for operating the bigger aircraft to the dense routes and airports in order to reap in better yields. Asked whether the airline would deploy A380 at any of the Indian destinations, he said, "hopefully." Mr Foo was here to announce the `Amazing Australia Deals' scheme ex-Hyderabad. The scheme, which offered discounted return fares, was aimed at targeting the increasing traffic from India to several Australian cities. The scheme covered Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Perth. "The special fares are available for sale between April 19 and May 4 and is valid for outbound travel from April 19 to June 15.
Plans for India
The airline, which operated 49 flights a week to eight Indian destinations, was planning to increase the frequency to Chennai from daily to twice a day, Mr Foo said. Bangalore and Delhi too would have double daily flights at a later stage. SilkAir, a Singapore Airline subsidiary that currently operated flights to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, would fly to Coimbatore by the year-end.
