Star exporter status norms reviewed

Also raises ceiling on aggregate export targets

New Delhi April 19 In deference to the long-standing demand of the status holders, the annual supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy has re-christened the status holders scheme and also raised the ceiling on achieving aggregate exports ranging from Rs 20 crore to Rs 10,000 crore from the hitherto level of Rs 15 crore to Rs 5,000 crore.

Merchant as well as manufacturer exporters, service providers, export oriented units (EOUs) and units located in Special Economic Zones (SEZs); Electronic Hardware Technology Parks (EHTP), Software Technology Parks (STPs) and Bio Technology Parks (BTPs) are all eligible to apply for the status as Star Export Houses.

Performance slab

Now the changes effected in the policy makes the earlier one-star export house with a performance of Rs 15 crore to be called Export House, with a new performance criteria of Rs 20 crore.

Two-star export houses with Rs 100 crore performances earlier would now be called Star Export Houses and its performance criteria stands at Rs 100 crore. The earlier three-star export house with Rs 500 crore export performance would now be called Trading House but the performance criterion remains at Rs 500 crore.

In the case of earlier four-star export house with an export performance of Rs 1,500 crore would now be called Star Trading House with an export performance criterion of Rs 2,500 crore, while the earlier five-star export house with a performance of Rs 5,000 crore would now be called Premier Trading House but with an export performance criteria of Rs 10,000 crore, the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Mr Kamal Nath said.
