Rail Wheel Factory output exceeds target

Bangalore April 20 The Rail Wheel Factory (RWF) here achieved a record production during the year with the output exceeding the installed capacity of 1,15,000 wheels.

It produced 1,26,126 wheels during the year. The target for the wheel sets, which consists of axles and wheels, was also surpassed by the RWF.

It produced 58,259 unit against the target of 40,500 target set by the Railway Board, said Mr Praveen Kumar, General Manager, Rail Wheel Factory while addressing the staff on the occasion of the Railway Week hereThe RWF, Bangalore, which had been set up to reduce the dependence on imports for rolling stock, also achieved another feat of reducing the energy bill to the tune of Rs 11.67 lakh during the year.

Mr Kumar said due to continuous energy monitoring and corrective actions, the energy consumption per tonne of steel melted had been reduced from 549 units to 541 units per tonne during the period.

"Our industrial relations with the cooperation of Staff Council have been at their best and have contributed greatly to the achievements of RWF, Mr Kumar said.
