Fire in Pak National Shipping

Corpn building

Fire recently destroyed four floors of Pakistan National Shipping Corporation's building in Karachi. No loss of life was reported. The affected floors housed the offices of chairman, the minister, board of directors, a library, besides finance and accounts, personnel, estates, public relations, administration and claims departments. While a team has been formed to ascertain the cause of the fire, it is felt that inadequate fire-fighting facilities allowed a small fire to turn into an inferno. Meanwhile, PNSC's operations departments have been temporarily shifted to an oil tanker in the Karachi port which has established contacts with the corporation's ships voyaging in international waters across the world. The PNSC management claims that all important papers and documents are safe as these have been kept in some other places.
