Education CII logistics institute plans diverse courses Archana Venkat
Chennai April 23 To cater to increased demand, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) - Institute of Logistics proposes to offer diverse courses on various aspects of supply chain management to students and working professionals. According to senior officials at the institute, there is an acute shortage of dedicated certificate courses catering to sub-modules in supply chain management such as transportation, warehousing, space management, managing an integrated supply chain and return on investment related to such modules. "Transport operators who take up our existing two-year programme in supply chain management have said they want courses specific to their industry. They may not be interested in best practices outside of their industry," said sources.
Dedicated courses
To organise such dedicated courses, the institute is talking to various foreign universities. "Some (universities) have said they would like to sign a memorandum of understanding while others want to send their professors to take a single class at our institute," a senior CII member said. The institute is evaluating these options, though finalising a tie-up model will depend on demand from candidates. It also plans to design courses for college students wishing to take up a career related to logistics and supply chain management.
