Wider port coverage planned under Indiamex

Kolkata April 23 APL, CMA CGM and Hapag-Lloyd propose to provide wider coverage of ports under the India-America Express (Indamex) service covering the trade route between the Indian sub-continent and the US East Coast ports.

According shipping sources, the service, originating in Colombo, will be extended to the US East Coast port of Savannah and the first call at Savannah will be on May 11.

Savannah will be the fourth US port of call for the Indamex after New York, Norfolk and Charleston.

In addition to Savannah, the operators of the joint service have announced that the Indamex service will make regular scheduled stops at Damietta (Egypt) on its voyage to the US through the Suez Canal.

Port rotation

The port rotation will be: Colombo - Nhava Sheva - Mundra - Damietta - New York - Norfolk - Charleston - Savannah - Port Said - Colombo.

The three shipping lines operate on the route seven vessels of the capacity ranging from 3,800 TEUs to 4,500 TEUs, the sources said.
