Siemens Q2 net dips 8 pc

Our Bureau

Mumbai April 23 Siemens has reported net profit of Rs 108.1 crore for its second quarter ended March 31, 2007 against Rs 117.8 crore reported in the corresponding previous period, marking a fall of about eight per cent.

However, sales rose by 91 per cent to Rs 2,129 crore (Rs 1,115 crore).

The power, automation and industrial solutions segments were the major volume drivers.

While the power division generated revenue of Rs 1,186 crore, the automation segment contributed Rs 438.4 crore.

Siemens, which operates in various segments such as energy, industry and buildings, IT, communication, transportation and healthcare, bagged new orders worth Rs 1,947.7 crore during the quarter compared to Rs 1,591 crore earlier, reflecting a jump of 22 per cent. Its unexecuted order value at the end of the quarter stood at Rs 10,883.9 crore.

Mr J. Schubert, Managing Director, said that base businesses grew by over 41 per cent. "Our strategy to participate in large infrastructure projects resulted in several mega order wins, which generate a higher volume of profits, but under tighter margins," he told newspersons on Monday.

Picks stake in iMetrix

Siemens also announced that it is acquiring 77 per cent stake for an undisclosed sum in Chennai-based iMetrix Technologies, which is engaged in providing electronic security, safety and building automation systems.

The acquisition is expected to create synergies for Siemens Building Technologies (SBT), a division that operates in the areas of building automation, heating and ventilation, fire safety, security systems and access control.
