Advertising Web Extras - Awards & Honours McCann-Erickson gets Goafest Grand Prix award Swetha Kannan
Goa April 23 McCann-Erickson had a `happy dent' on its face at the Goafest 2007 advertising awards. As its television commercial for client Perfetti Van Melle (for its Happy Dent teeth whitening chewing gum) walked away with the most coveted `Grand Prix' in the TV advertising category, Mr Prasoon Joshi and his team were all smiles! The commercial had `winner' written all over it right from day one of the adfest with admiration coming in from all quarters, including the local advertising community and the `ad men' from abroad. True to its spirit, it was all camaraderie and fun at Goa on Sunday night, although Abby winner Ogilvy & Mather was conspicuously missed as it decided to stay away. But that certainly didn't spoil McCann-Erickson's party as the agency won quite a few creative awards including a Silver in outdoor advertising for Skylink courier in the corporate services category, Bronze in press advertising for Xbox, a Silver for its Chlormint ad on radio, apart from, of course, the Gold for its Happy Dent TV ad in the confectionery category for best direction and music. JWT snapped up the Grand Prix for outdoor it won a Gold for its ad for Kurkure in the snacks category, Bronze for its Levi Sykes Detachables ad in the textiles category, and a Bronze in the finance category for LIC. Grey Worldwide also bagged quite a few awards this year including a Silver for its Appy Fizz ad for Parle (TV) and Silver for Kiwi shoe polish ad in press, and a Gold and Silver in the outdoor segment for Travel Corp of India. Rediffusion and Contract Advertising were also winners of Silver and Bronze in quite a few categories. This year, the jury decided not to award any Grand Prix awards in the press and radio categories. And although there were several Silver and Bronze winners, there were very few Gold winners. In the words of Mr Prasoon Joshi, this is obviously an attempt "to raise the bar" so that only the best win!
For the first time, the AAI (Advertising Agencies Association of India), the organisers of the Goafest, announced media awards (for below the line) across 19 verticals such as outdoor, newspaper, magazine, TV, youth marketing, cinema and the Internet.
While JWT won three Gold, three Silver awards, Mindshare bagged three Gold and five Silver awards.
In all the Goafest awards attracted 3,212 entries, which include 3,019 entries for creative awards.
