Tea prices ease at Coimbatore auctions

Our Bureau

Coimbatore April 24 The total offerings at the Tea Trade Association, Coimbatore, amounted to 3.51 lakh kg of tea of which leaf grades accounted for 1.50 lakh kg and the rest dust.

There was fair demand for the orthodox leaf grades. All sorts tended lower by Rs 2 to Rs 4 a kg. CIS lent fair support, major blenders were quiet and internal demand limited on whole leaf grades.

Limited quantities on offer of the orthodox dust grades sold at easier rates. There were some withdrawals.

There was fair support for the brighter liquoring CTC leaf from upcountry buyers. Exporters picked the medium/plain bolder grades. Others were irregular and ruled lower by Re1/kg. HLL was selective on smaller grades and internal demand fair for smaller grades of tea.

The CTC dust grades witnessed good demand. High priced and good liquoring sorts were firm to occasionally dearer for finer grades. Better mediums recorded a steady market. Internal buyers lent good support. Exporters remained quiet.

The orthodox high grown ruled between Rs 63 and Rs 76 a kg while best CTC dust grades ranged between Rs 62 and Rs 71/kg.
