Our Bureau

Chennai April 24 Cetex Petrochemicals Ltd, leading producer of petrochemical solvents, has diversified into fine chemicals.

The company on Tuesday launched a range of speciality chemicals that find application in aroma and pharmaceutical industries.

"As a result of our continued efforts to enhancing our manufacturing capabilities we have developed these hydrogenation-based speciality chemicals. And the company still has surplus hydrogenation capacity available for any contract manufacturing too," said the company's Chairman, Mr S. Pattu.

The Rs 83-crore Cetex Petro has invested around Rs 8.5 crore in creating facilities to produce these products. According to Mr S. Ilanahai, Managing Director, the company is still working on developing more such speciality chemicals that would find much wider application across industries.

Currently, it is a major player in the 20,000-tonne methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) market with 60 per cent share. The company also recently bagged an order from IOC Lanka for diesel additive, a product the company trades in.
