Kamal Nath meets Chidambaram

Our Bureau

New Delhi, April 25

The Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr Kamal Nath, on Wednesday called on the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, at his North Block office. This meeting comes in the backdrop of reported differences between the Finance and Commerce Ministries over the issue of service tax exemption announcements in the recent Annual Supplement to the Foreign Trade Policy.

Official sources maintained that it was a routine meeting and nothing specific on service tax was discussed. Indications are that the two Ministers discussed the Hutch-Vodafone deal and the Law Ministry's opinion on the matter.
