Outlook Logistics - Roadways Sical Logistics plans repair yard for trucks at Nagpur M. Ramesh
Chennai April 26 Sical Logistics, which expects land for its proposed rail and road terminal projects at Nagpur to be handed over next month, plans to put up a `maintenance, repair, overhaul' yard for commercial vehicles there. The yard will have space to park 650 vehicles at a time, apart from space for repairing the vehicles and storing spares and tyres. Mr Karthik Menon, Whole-time Director, Sical Logistics, told Business Line that "three commercial vehicles companies" were interested in using the services. "We will offer space and handle the administration for them (customers)," he said. The `truck MRO yard' will come up on an area of around 40 acres within the 180-acre land allotted to the company for the rail and road terminals. Sical Logistics has formed two special purpose vehicles to implement the rail and road terminal projects. The rail terminal will call for an investment of Rs 57 crore and the road terminal Rs 112 crore. Sical Logistics will hold 51 per cent stake in both the SPVs. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) and Gupta Coal India Ltd will hold 26 per cent and 23 per cent respectively, in each of the two SPVs. Transcare Consulting, a consulting company for rail terminals, is Sical's advisor for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in 14 months. "We expect to raise the first bill in December 2008," Mr Menon said. A MRO for aircraft is coming up right next to the project Sical expects load for its warehouse to come from the aviation sector too. Mr Menon said that many SEZ developers in the country were asking Sical Logistics if the company could replicate the `Nagpur model' in their zones.
