Guide book on VAT released

Hyderabad April 26 Mr Meela Satyanarayana, Chairman and Managing Director of Sudhakar Group of Industries, has said that compliance of Acts and rules would go up if they offered convenience in adherence.

Addressing a gathering at the release of the book `A guide to APVAT Act, 2005' here, he said business people did not like to move courts. Instead, they would like to adhere to the rules. "But the rules should be simple in nature to make it user-friendly for traders," he said.

Mr T. Vivek, Additional Director of Vigilance and Enforcement Department and a member of the team that actually prepared the blueprint for VAT implementation in the State, authored the book. Mr T.S.V. Diwakar co-authored it.

Mr Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy of Andhra Pradesh High Court exhorted authors of legal books to express their views on judgments, while writing `commentaries' and `treatises' on various laws and judgments.

Taking a dig at `authors' and writers of `compendiums', he said many such authors, at best, could be called copywriters, as they just list out laws and judgments.

They might do good business, selling such books, but only works of substance would get noticed by discerning readers.
